Virtual reality transforming hospital stays
The project “Journeys That Heal” is a unique initiative aimed at providing emotional support to children in oncology wards. Thanks to special VR goggles, young patients were able to escape, even briefly, into vibrant and playful virtual worlds.
It’s more than entertainment. Studies confirm that VR sessions significantly reduce stress, alleviate pain, and support recovery. The project ran from November 2024 to May 2025, visiting pediatric oncology and hematology wards in Gdańsk, Łódź, Warsaw, Wrocław, Kraków, and Katowice.
Technology serving children’s wellbeing
What did the project include?
Full VR sets: Each hospital department received VR goggles and controllers, ensuring that therapy could continue beyond the project's timeline.
Therapeutic support: The Rakiety Foundation ensured psychological and age-appropriate guidance for all sessions.
Real impact: Children showed improved moods, tolerated treatments better, and their hospital experience became more bearable.
Partnership with purpose
Behind the project’s success stands the close cooperation between the Rakiety Oncology Foundation and Globalworth – one of the leading real estate investors and office space managers in Central and Eastern Europe. Globalworth not only funded the equipment but also actively participated in organizing the VR sessions.
Smiles instead of fear
Parents and medical staff emphasized how the virtual journeys brought joy and relief to the children. Smiles returned to faces that had long been marked by anxiety and pain. For many, it was a glimpse of the carefree childhood they had missed.
A model worth following
The “Journeys That Heal” project can serve as an example for other hospitals and non-profit organizations. It shows how technology can support mental health, especially during such a difficult time as cancer treatment in children.
Globalworth and Rakiety Foundation proved that empathy, innovation, and commitment can come together to create something truly meaningful. These children received more than just a distraction – they received hope, support, and the reassurance that they are not alone.
